Prepare HEIC Photos for Uploads and Sharing

HEIC photos are efficient on Apple devices, but many websites, forms, and apps still expect JPG, PNG, or WebP. heictoimg converts your photos in the browser so you can save a more compatible copy without sending the image file to heictoimg.com servers.

What is HEIC?

HEIC is the photo container format used by many iPhones and iPads. It can keep image quality high while using less storage than older JPG files, which is why Apple devices often save camera photos as HEIC by default. Read the full What is HEIC? guide for the details.

Why websites reject HEIC

Some upload forms only accept specific image formats because JPG, PNG, and WebP work across more browsers, operating systems, and content systems. Converting a HEIC photo can make it easier to attach to profiles, documents, listings, and support forms.

When to choose JPG

Choose JPG for regular photos, portraits, product shots, and images you want to upload or share with a smaller file size. JPG is the safest default for most photo upload forms. See HEIC vs JPG for a full comparison.

When to choose PNG

Choose PNG when you need a lossless copy or when the image is a screenshot, graphic, or document-like image with sharp edges. PNG files can be larger than JPG files. The HEIC to PNG converter opens with PNG preselected.

When to choose WebP

Choose WebP for modern websites and apps that accept it when you want a smaller upload-ready image. If an older form rejects WebP, use JPG instead. The HEIC to WebP converter opens with WebP preselected, and the under 500 KB and under 1 MB presets handle strict upload limits.

Passport & visa photo presets

Many passport and visa uploads require an exact pixel size and file-size limit. These presets open the converter with the right JPG crop and compression already selected — you still need to follow the official photo rules for your own application.

Privacy boundary

Browser-only conversion

When you select a HEIC file, the converter reads and processes it locally in your browser using WebAssembly. The original image and converted result are not uploaded to heictoimg.com servers for conversion.

The site can still use normal website systems such as page-level analytics, theme and language preferences, and future ad disclosures. Those are separate from the private image files you choose on your device.

Read the privacy-first explanation

Batch conversion

Add one photo or a batch. The converter accepts up to 50 HEIC files at a time on desktop (10 on phones and tablets) and processes them progressively.

Common failures

Conversion can fail if a file is not really HEIC, the image is damaged, or the browser runs out of memory on a large photo.

Important limits

heictoimg converts image format only. It does not guarantee that a third-party website, school, job platform, marketplace, or agency will accept the output.
